From Strategy to Execution: My Transformative Summer at AbelsonTaylor Group

26 August 2024   |   Alex Cusick

This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to intern with the Engagement Strategy team at AbelsonTaylor Group. This “nextgenerATion” experience, as the internship program is called, enriched my understanding of the industry and allowed me to grow both professionally and personally.

Collaborative Rebranding Project

We worked on a number of projects, both real and hypothetical. One of my most memorable and rewarding experiences was collaborating with my fellow interns on a corporate rebranding exercise. Working as a team gave us the chance to connect deeply with each other and bring our individual strengths to the table, amplifying our creativity, analytical thinking, strategic insight, and technical expertise.

Developing a Brand Identity Campaign

We dove into the task of defining the essence of company “X” through research, brainstorming, and creative development. Then we developed a professional brand identity campaign, which we jointly presented to AbelsonTaylor Group’s leadership at the end of the project. That presentation was a highlight of my summer. Seeing how our combined efforts and different skill sets came together to create a cohesive and compelling brand narrative was immensely gratifying. It was a powerful reminder of how collaboration can lead to outstanding results and build strong personal connections.

Hands-on SEO Experience

In addition to the corporate identify project, I was actively involved in Search Engine Optimization (SEO) work during my internship. I had some theoretical knowledge in this area but applying it in a real-world context was an eye-opening experience. I engaged in tasks like creating SEO manuscripts, optimizing content, and analyzing SEO performance metrics. It was fascinating to see how strategic changes in content and keywords could significantly impact search engine rankings and drive online traffic. This practical experience provided me with a solid foundation in SEO and underscored its importance in enhancing a brand’s digital presence.

Understanding the Customer Journey

Understanding the customer journey was another important area of learning I gained from my internship. Mapping out and analyzing the steps customers take from initial awareness to final conversion is essential for developing effective engagement strategies. I worked on identifying key touchpoints and pain points in the customer journey, which helped in crafting strategies that address the needs of these customers and improve their overall experience. This focus on the customer journey emphasized the importance of creating personalized and impactful marketing efforts that resonate with the target audience.

Collaboration and Mentorship

Throughout the summer, I was fortunate to work in a supportive and collaborative environment. The team at AbelsonTaylor Group was welcoming and encouraging, providing valuable feedback and mentorship. This positive atmosphere made it easy to share ideas, take initiative, and grow professionally. I felt like a true part of the team, and this experience significantly enhanced my learning and development.

A Transformative Internship

In summary, my summer internship at AbelsonTaylor Group was an incredible adventure filled with growth and discovery. Every experience – the collaborative rebranding project, the hands-on SEO work, the customer journey revelations – contributed to a deeper appreciation of engagement strategy and its impact on effective communications. I am grateful that I got to work with amazingly talented people and gain practical skills that will benefit my future career. This summer was more than just a job; it was a transformative experience that has prepared me for the next steps in my professional journey.
